BJW is bucking the trend by setting up as a new trade finisher in Coventry to serve the B1 and B2 market with cut, fold, score, stitch, handwork and distribution services.

The doors have now opened and the company is running with a brand new automated KH 78 folder, TF 78,Ti 36 a Ti 52 buckle folder and Stitchmaster ST 100 six-station saddle-stitcher, all supplied new from Heidelberg UK. It also offers scoring/folding inline on the specially-made SSP 78 as well as hand stitching drilling and guillotining.

Named after the three founders, Barry Lobbett, Jon Sheward and Wayne Reading, the new company was the idea of local businessman Barry, who contacted customers from local finishers BJT which had gone into liquidation.

He asked if they would be interested in supporting a new company to take over from where BJT had left off and all of the 50 customers said they would. This enabled Barry to provide work for the hand-workers who had been laid off.

Barry Lobbett then contacted another former BJT colleague Jon Sherward, who had been the Stitching-Line Supervisor with 25 years' experience in finishing. He in turn approached Wayne Reading, who has 15 years' experience in the trade. The team also have management experience in and out of the trade.

BJW is now working with former BJT customers and building new business. Leicester is a key market but it will pool work in from the whole Midlands area.

"The B1 KH 78 folder will do twice the work of the older models and will increase our capacity for B1 and leaflet work. I have had experience of the model and I knew it was quick, easy to set," says Wayne Reading. "The Ti is the workhorse for smaller products."

The company is operating with the management and seven staff. It will also use "Barry's girls", a team of six ladies with over 100 years of quality hand finishing experience between them.

BJW is selling on a stream feedling Stahl TF 78 buckle folder with a batch counter and closed gate attachment.
