Lemon Press is taking its first ever brand new press, the Speedmaster XL 75-5+LX with the ultimate makeready and colour control tool Prinect Inpress Control. It will be delivered to the Redditch company’s 1.5 acre site in June.
Managing Director Mark Fearon is at drupa and is impressed with the accolades Heidelberg’s new top of the range B2 press is earning but also just how far Heidelberg has gone to make colour control and workflow truly scientific.
"Our press will be delivered shortly after the show along with a Stahlfolder TH/KH 66 and we can’t wait. drupa has only whetted our appetite more," says Mark Fearon.
The Redditch firm has turned its back on the secondhand market to buy £1.25 million of new equipment. It believes that this round of investment positions the company to compete effectively in a very tough marketplace.
"Vision in Print undertook a five month consultancy exercise with us to find out where we excelled and where we needed to improve further. Colour control and faster makeready times were both areas, that we felt offered our clients real benefits," says Mark Fearon.
"We followed this up by using Heidelberg’s business development service which over a month investigated the number of makereadies a day, run lengths and variations in the format, type and extent of our work. We wanted a solution that would guarantee top quality at speed and ultimately achieve the right unit price. The 18,000-sheets-per-hour Speedmaster XL 75-5+LX with Inpress Control ticked all the boxes."
Lemon Press handles a high volume of ad agency work, mainly brochures and marketing collateral. That means operating to the highest standards. Often Pantones are specified along with LAB values and the customers want a print out from the press, fully provable colour which Inpress Control will give them. But Inpress Control goes further than all other spectral devices in that it automates many of the makeready and on-the-run press procedures to maximise productivity and minimise downtime.
The five colour units on the Speedmaster XL 75 give the brand-aware printer the specials facility and the coating enables Lemon Press to provide both the prestige finish and response that its customer requires.
"Our line up will enable us to serve a niche just below the B2 long perfector market. It’s a press that saves on paper, too, which we like from a commercial and environmental perspective," says Mark Fearon. "I would love all my customers to be here at drupa; they would see just how advanced we are going to be in the printing industry with this latest investment."
The company already has FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody and ISO 9001 quality accreditation. It is heading towards ISO 14001 certification and will follow that up with work on ISO 12647 colour control.
