Anton came to drupa to sign a £10 million order with Heidelberg for three Speedmaster XL 105-12-P long perfectors. Chief Executive John Knight and his team met up with Heidelberg’s chairman Bernhard Schreier in Hall 1 to shake hands on the deal.

The first of the three presses will be delivered to the company’s 160,000 square-foot factory in Dunton, near Basildon, in January 2009 with the other presses arriving annually after that. The first Speedmaster XL 105 will be equipped with a CutStar reel-to-sheet device and Inpress Control which has been specified because of its huge potential to cut makeready time and sheet waste.

At present the company is producing direct mail and other commercial print on seven Speedmaster SM 102-12-P presses. Bernhard Schreier told John Knight that he used a picture of the company’s pressroom to show people what a modern industrial print factory should look like.

"This investment gives us more speed to help us compete in a very difficult market," says John Knight. "We need every tool we can to help us stay competitive. We want quality, consistency and efficiency. We are massively impressed with the XL 105. Heidelberg does listen to what we say and we can see some significant improvements, for instance in Inpress Control, the speed of the machine, how easy it is to maintain etc."

Bernhard Schreier, Chairman of Heidelberg, says: "Anton has been a loyal customer over many years and we welcome this fantastic three Speedmaster XL 105 perfector order. John Knight has understood the need for process efficiency as a key to remaining competitive in a challenging market."

George Clarke, Managing Director of Heidelberg UK, says: "After years of experience with CutStars and great success with its battery of Speedmaster SM 102-12-P presses Anton has seen that the Speedmaster XL 105 will enable them to attain the next big jump in productivity. After extensive tests with Inpress Control they have seen that it has the ability to give them a massive boost in output by reducing makeready times and with the added benefit of assured quality."

Anton operates 24 hours, seven days a week to meet its customers' requirements.
