Anton Group has turned to Heidelberg with an order for a seventh Speedmaster SM 102-12P with CutStar, an addition to its £8 million spend at Ipex.

Chief Executive John Knight, says: "We urgently need more capacity so Heidelberg has promised to supply us with another 12-colour within a month. This one is coming in ahead of the last of the 12-colours we ordered at Ipex which is still scheduled for December. It means that by the end of the year we will be running seven 12-colour SM 102s in a row, each of them equipped with CutStar."

Even now with five 12-colour Speedmaster SM 102-12Ps in a row, the direct mail giant is outputting a staggering 6.4 million sheets a week, with an average six to ten jobs per press in every 24 hours.

"Yes, we have considered alternatives to Heidelberg but we always return because we like our evolving customer-supplier relationship and are immensely impressed by the level of research and development and also the investment which Heidelberg continues to make to improve press efficiency and environmental matters," says Mr Knight.

The company has moved across to a new 160,000 square feet factory in Dunton, Essex, where there is an optimum physical workflow. The company is very JDF/Prinect-minded, using Tharstern MIS to connect into production and operating closed loop colour control running to ISO 12647 colour standards, enabling it to support its customers with strong brand leadership. Like many others, it believes Preset Plus feeder and delivery and also CutStar have been key contributors to the company's high productivity.

"The move to Dunton, the better physical workflows, the best equipment and committed staff are all combining to help us grow and develop. The investment we are making is good for us and good for our customers," says Mr Knight.
