GM Design and Print is following up its investment in a four-colour Printmaster PM 52 by buying a Prosetter 74 visible light CtP system.
Bought out by Steve Mead three years ago, the Bognor Regis company has subsequently attracted an increasing amount of full colour work. Most is from within a 50 mile radius although with some from further afield, even County Durham.
So the first step was to replace its GTO-2 with the PM 52-4, eliminating two pass production. The press was specified with Easyplate and automatic blanket wash but having the quality of a Speedmaster with the price tag of the Printmaster was “perfect” for Mr Mead. The four-unit configuration was determined by space limitations. The PM 52 features selected by GM Design and Print are low pile delivery which shaves off centimetres from the length of the press.
The press has proved so fast in the first months of its life that it became untenable to continue with conventional platemaking.
“The Prosetter violet solution is better for us and we have no worries with the yellow light conditions because we have been running film in dark room conditions,” says Mr Mead. “We know we will see a lot of difference with CtP, not least cleaner plates and greater production speed throughout the factory.”
The company also added a new folder unit a year ago so the arrival of the Prosetter marks the end of a front to back upgrade.
