Hickling Pumps Up the Plate Volume with a Suprasetter Order

21.09.2005
Hickling & Squires is taking delivery of a Suprasetter 74 at the end of the month to increase output as its Speedmaster CD 74-8P (the first B2 CD long perfector in the UK earlier this year) continues to pump out work in volume alongside the established Speedmaster SM 74-10P.

Managing Director Richard Wells says: “We had a Trendsetter but with the addition of the eight-colour we couldn’t cope with plate output and needed to upgrade. We looked closely at the violet option but thermal is what we know and are used to. In addition to the Suprasetter we will replace the Trendsetter with a Topsetter for back up and peaks in production.”

The Suprasetter 74 can output 30 plates and hour and is specified with full automation, a single cassette loader and Metashooter software enabling it to connect into the existing workflows which include Prinect Prepress Interface, connection prepress and press seamlessly.

Having pumped up the plate volume the company was also keen to increase finishing output and it has done so by adding joggers and stacklifts around its Polar 115 guillotine and adding a second station Stahlfolder Ti 52-4 with a VSA stacker at the end. Materials handling in the pressroom has both health and safety and productivity benefits which Hickling & Squires will benefit from.

This completes a £1.5 million spend with Heidelberg for 2005 and turnover for the company is up 25 percent from the previous year. Plans for 2006 include a 5,000 square-foot extension to its current premises, installation of the Prinance MIS system and a new stitching line.

The 24-hour Nottingham company generates 75 percent of its work from quality commercial contracts as a preferred supplier to many blue chip companies.
