RS Print in Leicester is making its first move into full colour single pass production with a Speedmaster SM 52-5.
The arrival of the press this month takes pressure off the Speedmaster SM 74-2 and SM 52-2P which have handled four-colour two pass production to date.
"This is a natural progression for us," says Mick Mounteney, managing director. "We have handled four-colour work on our two-colour presses and had to place some work out. We decided on a five-colour press because the fifth unit will enable us to cope with the increasing demand for silk stocks that need sealing. This press will give us a substantial increase in capacity and turnover."
The company installed a new CtP system eight months ago so it already has the plate capacity to feed the new press. And its finishing is up to date with a POLAR 92 guillotine and Stahlfolder 52.
RS Print handles a range of commercial work, from stationery through to full colour brochures, for businesses and agencies mainly in the Midlands area.
"Customers are very price conscious today," says Mr Mounteney. "There is too much capacity chasing too little work so there are increasing demands on price and service. Having the right equipment matters and I have always used Heidelberg - they are always my first port of call when I choose presses."
Mr Mounteney joined the company 30 years ago and rose from machine minder to company director before acquiring the business himself eight years ago.
