A Speedmaster CD 74 B2 five-colour press is currently being installed at Simlex Group in Four Ashes, Wolverhampton.
It replaces a B1 Mitsubishi press. In addition a Printmaster PM 74-2 two-colour press, a Stahlfolder with palletised feed and ImageControl spectrophotometry serving all Speedmaster presses are on order.
Following this £1.5 million investment, CIP 4 connectivity and a new CtP system are being planned before the end of the year.
“This latest investment with Heidelberg is all about getting cost out of product,” says managing director David Earp. ”Increased productivity and further quality improvements which this investment will give us, is in our view vital in today’s print market - regardless of product sector.
“In addition the CD 74 will give us increased capability to compete in the packaging market, as well as giving us better productivity and further quality improvements on established colour brochure business.”
The Printmaster press will be installed with existing Speedmaster presses producing high variety, low volume one- and two-colour brochures and booklets and the Stahl folder similarly will go alongside existing Stahlfolders, with the palletised feed projected to increase output by 20 percent.
Simlex supplies nationwide mainly to financial, manufacturing and service sectors. Production is on the basis of double day shift working. The business was established in 1945 and was one of the first in the industry to gain ISO 9002 accreditation.
High customer service levels and product quality have earned Simlex an enviable reputation in the marketplace and further investment with Heidelberg will contribute to maintaining those standards.
