Impress Digital Takes a Step into Litho with Quickmaster DI Pro

12.09.2005
Impress Digital is to take delivery of a Quickmaster DI Pro next week secure that it already has a major £500,000 order to feed it as well as the promise of a lot more longer run work from existing customers.

Featured on Five Live when it launched three years ago with founder Barry Hodgson’s father George putting his house on the line to fund his son’s enterprise. His faith has paid off with the company now operating out of new 15,000 square-foot premises and with three major machines running and a turnover set to rise from £650,000 to over £1 million in the current year.

With the Quickmaster DI comes the 10th recruit, a minder with litho experience who will be trained alongside an existing member of staff. This will give cover but also underlines Impress Digital’s hopes of going to double shift on the Quickmaster DI by Christmas.

“The market we are in has a lot more call for bigger runs and rather than turn it away or place it out we have decided to buy the DI,” says managing director Barry Hodgson. “We considered a conventional B2 press with CtP but that is a step too far at this stage but will be our next move if the DI can’t cope with demand.”

The Quickmaster DI was selected only after speaking to users. They liked the machine and Mr Hodgson was very impressed with the registration and paper feeder which he describes as “spot on”. The company will do two pass production, adding specials and metallics to four-colour work as required.

About 85 percent of Impress Digital’s work is from Liverpool, much of it from agencies and councils.

The company has recently upgraded its four-colour Nexpress to a five-colour version with gloss option and it also has a 50-inch-wide photographic press for exhibitions and large format, plus a high speed 90 pages per minute black and white digital printing machine. It believes 40 percent of its turnover next year will be attributable to the Quickmaster DI.
