Heidelberg Supplies High Spec Press to Field Boxmore

08.08.2005
Field Boxmore in Bedford has been supplied with its first Heidelberg press, replacing one of three existing presses.

The company has taken delivery of a highly specified Speedmaster
CD 74-6PLX, a six-colour dedicated UV press built on a 500 milimetre plinth.

This is the group’s second Heidelberg press. It has another in Avallon, France, which has been very successful. To meet Field Boxmore’s delivery deadline Heidelberg diverted a press that had been intended for its own training centre.

Dr Malcolm Exeter, Group Project Engineer, says: “The CD 74 was the most appropriate machine for the purpose in this case. We produce high quality UV packaging from this site and the new press will help us meet all existing requirements and create new opportunities.”

The press has been equipped with a number of features including the Prinect CP 2000 control centre, which is fully JDF compatible, along with the CANopen connection facility enabling peripherals to be controlled from a single central console as well. There is integrated DryStar UV and also Instant Start blanket wash up which means that printers do not have to wait for solvent to dissipate, a saving of up to two thirds of normal washing time on many jobs. UV is becoming ever more popular because it offers the highest gloss levels and work comes off dry.

Field Boxmore is a specialist in pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging. It generates sales of over £200 million with over 2,500 employees operating out of 22 sites across seven European countries. It is part of the Field Group, which is a division of the Chesapeake Corporation.
