Lasting Impressions is centralising four sites into one and taking the opportunity to re-equip with a full production and MIS package from Heidelberg which allows it to become fully JDF networked.
Centralising in a single 35,000 square feet leasehold site close to Chessington World of Adventures will give it a third more space than it currently has over four separate sites. Lasting Impressions’ main factory in Wimbledon, its finishing unit in Croydon, a prepress studio and a storage unit will come together and all 63 staff transfer.
The site is close to a train link to Waterloo in London and adjacent to the A3, a main road into London and out to the M25. The Lasting Impressions freehold site is sold, freeing up capital to reinvest for growth.
The company is already a £ 6.5 million turnover company and with the investment it has the potential to build to £ nine to ten million sales over the next five years. In the year immediately after the move it hopes to achieve a turnover of £ 7.5 million although the economics of the factory do not necessitate such growth to meet its profit target. The company plans to increase its contract work to 30 percent and will be targeting local councils, facilities management groups and other major print users. It has an impressive client list and handles a lot of automotive work direct or through design agencies. This work is for the likes of Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Toyota and Lexus.
The progressive company is buying two Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102-6LX presses, a Prinance MIS system, PrintReady prepress workflow, Polar 115 guillotine with stacklift and jogger, a Stahlfolder TH 82 and a Stitchmaster ST 400 six-station saddle stitcher plus cover feeder.
The company will sell a nine year old Speedmaster SM 102 and a six year old Speedmaster SM 74 but transfer across a Speedmaster SM 52-4 and an Indigo digital press.
Chris Windsor, Sales and Marketing director, says: “JDF and networking is really important to us. We chose Prinance because we felt it was the best system for estimating and production control and it feeds back really meaningful management information. We are integrating it with a specialist web-based Customer Relationship Management package.
“With on press ImageControl spectrophotometry and the Prepress Interface we will have a fully closed loop colour management system. We will also use JDF networking to link all our production and management processes together and enable both the presses and the stitching line to be preset to enable quicker make-readies.”
Mr Windsor is one of a Board of five which also includes: Russ Green, Chairman; Brian Gillett, Managing Director; Yvonne Green, Financial Director; and Frazer Mitchell, Director. Mr Green has put together an ambitious and forward-thinking team to ensure the company’s future growth and security.
The company is very focused. It is renewing its ISO 9002 quality accreditation and going for ISO 14001 environmental status using well known consultant Claire Taylor.
