Langstane Press in Aberdeen is taking a Printmaster QM 46 portrait press which it believes will give it about one third more output per shift than its existing presses.
The shop-fronted company handles a high volume of business to business work, including some oil industry contracts, but it still appeals to the walk in trade. Covering the east of Scotland, Langstane are also located in Dundee and Edinburgh.
The machine will be used for spot colour work. It currently runs with GTOs, two two-colour and a single-colour press. Full colour work is handled on Langstane’s Quickmaster DI Direct Imaging press.
“The GTOs are workhorses,” says production manager Bob Bruce, “but with the automation and quick plate-changing on the QM 46 we conservatively believe throughput will increase by a third.”
The company handles runs of up to 50,000 but averaging 5,000 and it produces its plates on a polyester CtP system.
“We did check out the competition, looking at other machines, but we have a long established relationship with Heidelberg and we feel with them we get the right back up and support which is important.”
