Printstore is trading in a Speedmaster SM 52-2 two-colour for a Printmaster PM 52-4 four-colour press, taking advantage of the scalable technology which allows printers to buy presses at more competitive prices.
The Kingston upon Thames company has a niche in the London restaurants market, creating both promotional materials and menus for an extensive client list.
Production manager Gez Clarke says: “We are buying this new press to increase productivity and to improve our scheduling so that turnround times are faster and we can comfortably and confidently meet our customers deadlines. We are also taking a Prosetter 52 visible light CtP system which will be networked in to our HP5500 proofer and the press to speed up throughput and ensure best colour match in production.”
The CtP system and press will arrive over the summer. The company looked at a number of presses over a six month period before selecting the Printmaster PM 52.
“The PM-52 meets all of the criteria required & ticks all the boxes,” says Mr Clarke. “You need to balance automation with cost and when we saw the press running at 13,000 sph at the Heidelberg open house and we saw that the quality matched that of the Speedmaster the decision was made. Now we can produce full colour in one pass not two.”
The company retains a Printmaster GTO 52-2 to handle the spot colour contracts and to seal or add specials where necessary. Printstore, which operates flexible day shifts, also has a design studio and standard finishing in-house.
