Red Ink in Ipswich have just installed a Prosetter 52 visible light CtP system.
The company has been outputting polyester plates and film for metal plates on an ECRM system. This is now seven years old and the company required a more reliable, accurate and flexible system which could better impose work and handle a variety of file formats, including PDFs and RGB work.
“We have estimated that with the Prosetter workflow we will save 35 to 40 man hours a week in imposition and sorting out different file formats which has been laborious and very time-consuming,” says managing director Simon Wade.
Until now the company has used polyester plates for its two-colour AB Dick presses and metal plates produced conventionally for its Heidelberg Printmaster 52-2 two-colour press and GTO single-colour press.
“Now we will be 100 percent metal but the plates from Heidelberg are cheaper than we have been paying for polyester. We financed the platesetter through a consumables deal. The paperwork is easy and we don’t feel the built in interest rate is too bad at all.”
The company’s repayments are based on 300 plates a month. It often runs 400 plates a month but has settled on the lower volume knowing that it can still make the repayments within a sensible timescale.
