Taylor Brothers in Bristol has ordered a Speedmaster CD 74-6LX from Heidelberg, a direct replacement for a four year old press which has proved reliable but has generated a high impression count as business has built.
The company has a space restriction so had a choice between a five-colour perfector or a straight six-colour press and came down in favour of the six-colour finding that it has regular demand for specials and seals. It has also replicated the coater with extended delivery option that it has used on its presses since 1991. This enables it to offer customers a high class finish and to move work faster through to finishing without fear of marking.
Managing Director Charles Taylor says: “We have had a very busy year and we have handled this by expanding our shift system. We are lean; we run the six-colour and a GTO so we need reliable equipment. The existing CD 74 has been a good machine and the new one will be as well. To increase capacity we might add a new machine in the future to take the more straightforward four-colour work off the CD 74. We will be assessing options over the coming months.”
The company sells through agencies and designers and direct to a regional market. It uses Prepress Interface connectivity to link its prepress to press to speed up make-ready and throughput.
