Impression Print has undertaken a front to back investment to position itself at the forefront of the B2 format market in Northern Ireland.
Adrian Glenn, managing director, says: “The company ethos at Impression has always been that the business will only progress at the same working pace as its weakest department. Therefore, this latest round of investment has ranged from pre-press to post-press, making it not only a complete Heidelberg house, but one of the best equipped facilities in the B2 market place.”
The company’s investment includes a B2 long perfector, the Speedmaster SM 74-8P with Prinect Prepress Interface for full closed loop colour. There is also Prinance, Heidelberg’s MIS system, and the complete Print Ready prepress workflow as well as a KTL palletised folder and a ST350 saddle-stitcher for finishing work to top standards fast.
Impression will also take delivery of the new Suprasetter thermal plate device this summer, bringing to a conclusion this current phase of spending.
Heidelberg’s perfecting technology on the new Speedmaster SM 74-8P has significantly reduced throughput times and increased productivity. Productivity has been further enhanced by the use of colour profiles generated via Prinect Prepress Interface and Job Tickets from Prinance. The supply of these over the network to CP2000 have shortened make-ready times and contributed to the added increase in efficiency. The optimisation of the press and calibration of the proofing device have also been vital factors.
As part of the ongoing drive to achieve customer satisfaction it was also necessary to calibrate the proofing device to the press and this has produced some very impressive results with printer’s proofs now being at least 90-95 percent accurate to the printed sheet. For Impression Print & Design the press still remains the hub of the business and its ability to produce efficiently is reliant on effective quality plate supply.
After wide consultation it was decided that the Prinect solution offered by Heidelberg best served the purpose. “The ability to output data originally prepared by Prinance as an estimate in JDF format for use in the presetting of prepress and press functions was a major factor in deciding which solution to opt for,” says Mr Glenn. “This integration of the business management process with the production workflow has been very beneficial.”
Mr Glenn finds: “The ST 350 and Stahlfolder KTL have proved to be quality finishing solutions which offer especially high levels of operator-friendliness, quality, and reliability. Heidelberg’s Stitchmaster and Palletised Folder partnership offer huge possibilities in terms of efficiency and flexibility. “With changeover times greatly reduced and a multitude of possible configurations at your disposal, overall output is increased considerably. This ease of handling material in different formats, coupled with the installation of compensation stackers on both devices, has helped to achieve maximum performance in the post-press department.”
Impression Print & Design is establishing itself as one of the market leaders in its class by adapting the technology which is currently available to them and using it to its full potential. They are committed to pursuing developments in the industry and rather than shying away from changes implementing them to there best advantage.
