The first of the three Speedmaster SM 102-12P 12-colour perfector presses Anton Group ordered at drupa is going in now with a second arriving at the turn of the year.
The direct mail specialist has secured contracts from RBS, Tesco and Virgin and needs the additional capacity this press will bring. It means that from this month the company will have two ten and two 12-colour long perfectors in operation. When the second the third press (due in December 2005 and two years time respectively) the company will be running four 12-colours in a row, a full 48 units.
Managing director John Knight says: “Direct mail is still a growth market and by having the type of efficiencies that 12-colour presses with CutStar reel to sheet technology brings means we can pass on the advantages to our customers in terms of price competitiveness. CutStar is very relevant because paper prices go up and up and also because we can cut to any format minimising waste. There are a lot of oddballs in direct mail. Our turnover will this year be £32 million but this installation gives us the potential to increase that a further 25 percent.”
Until five years ago Anton Group had a history of buying secondhand but it has subsequently forged a close working relationship with Heidelberg and finds its service and support “second to none”.
The company recently beefed up its finishing area, replacing a Muller Martini with a Stitchmaster ST 400 and adding a POLAR 137 XT Flowline and TK94 buckle folder.
