Colourstream Gets the Greene Light on CtP and 10-Unit Investment
15.02.2005
Colourstream in Derby has taken delivery of its second Speedmaster
SM 74-10P and will install a Suprasetter thermal CtP system
next month.
The first UK company to take a ten-colour B2 press from
Heidelberg four years ago, Colourstream has returned for a second
to help it lift turnover from £3 million to close to £4
million.
The new ten-colour replaces a five-colour Speedmaster SM 74
but uses the same level of manning and improves the overall factory
throughput by about 30 percent.
Managing director John Greene says: "Our experience with
multi-unit perfecting has been so good we have returned to
Heidelberg for more. We have never had a marking issue because even
four years ago second generation jacket technology was in place.
But the latest press features the new Preset Plus Feeder and
updated transfer drum system and so productivity is increased and
maintenance reduced."
The company is also replacing a Screen PlateRite 4000 CtP
system with Heidelberg's own developed and manufactured
Suprasetter. Colourstream was given a preview of the Suprasetter in
development stage in return for its feedback on the machine.
"It's very solid and it's taken CtP up a gear," says Mr
Greene. "It is a generation ahead of the system we have and it will
increase our productivity. Being Heidelberg we know that it will be
reliable and will last at least five years."
The company's all Heidelberg finishing facility is up to date
after a Polar Flowline was installed two years ago and a TD 78
buckle folder last June. It has full cut-fold-stitch services
in-house enabling it to meet tight deadlines cost-effectively for
customers throughout the UK.
Colourstream handles a broad range of general commercial
work. But it aims to be more than a conventional printer (where it
has both litho offset and digital production) and it offers design
and artwork, illustration, photography, copywriting and
distribution services.
The press is housed at prestigious 12,500 square feet
premises in Pride Park, near the Derby County Football Club
stadium.
