Banbury Litho is First with Stitchmaster ST 350
02.02.2005
Banbury Litho will be the first printer in the UK to take delivery
of a Stitchmaster ST 350 from Heidelberg. The saddle-stitcher will
be installed next month as part of a larger investment which also
includes a Speedmaster CD 74-5L five-colour press with coater and
Heidelberg's Prinance MIS system.
The high quality commercial printer moved last July to the
old Aston Martin site on the outskirts of Banbury, taking their
floor space from 11,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet and
giving it scope for expansion.
The Stitchmaster ST 350 replaces a ten year old Muller
Martini. Managing director John Baker says: "Muller couldn't offer
us anything in the bracket of the ST350 in terms of price and
speed. The ST 350 will have six stations and a cover feeder and it
will allow us to bring landscape work that previously went out back
in house. It is an impressive machine which is productive, flexible
but easy to operate."
The Speedmaster CD 74-5L comes in to replace an Speedmaster
SM 52-5. The CP2000 generation machine is well ahead in terms of
automation as well as rated speed. This will mean higher throughput
which is required because of an increase in demand for B2 format.
The company also runs Speedmaster SM 74 five-colour, Speedmaster 52
six- and a two-colour presses.
"The transfer on the CD 74 is exceptional, which results in
no marking. It is ideal for the high quality brochure, promotional
material and folders we produce. It will handle 400gsm silk coated
boards easily and it gives really good ink coverage. It will
underline our position as a high quality printer," says Mr Baker.
The company which has used Shuttleworth to date for
estimating and job bag creation is now switching to Heidelberg and
Prinance for its MIS requirements.
"As a business we are striving to become more efficient and
Prinance will give us the opportunity to improve communication
through all departments" says Baker. "With all employees taking
ownership and providing positive feedback relating to production
issues enables us to continually improve the services we provide."
The company supplies print to some major blue chip companies,
with most of its work coming from Oxford and London and from a
range of business types requiring a broad variety of material from
business cards through to magazines and promotional material.
The company employs 50 staff and the factory works a double
day shift. Banbury Litho was once the first UK printer to take a
Speedmaster SM 52-4.
